So we told the kids about Phantom just now. They took it as well as can be expected. There were tears and hugs from everyone. Ed was the one who broke it to them after we put Aeryn to bed. He died.

He was leaving his mother's house and was an apparent victim of an attempted robbery.  He was dead when the paramedics arrived.  My sister and her 9 yo daughter saw his body (by accident).

He has a one month old baby.

Now their family is hoping for some closure.  Who did it.  And why.

I just got back from the grocery store.  Apparently while I was out Beth (my sister) called.

Her fiancee's brother was shot.

She called here because she didn't have her work number with her at the hospital and needed to call off.  Ed looked it up online for her.
